Number System
Numbers : A number is an arithmetic value used for representing the quantity and used in making calculations
Ex: 1,2,3,4 ,5 ,6 ,7,8,9,0
Digit:A digit is an element of a set that, taken as a whole, comprises a system of numeration.
There are 10 digits they are
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0

Types of Numbers:
Natural Numbers:
Natural numbers are also called “counting numbers”
•Natural numbers contains the set of positive integers from 1 to infinity.
•The set of natural numbers is represented by the letter “N”.
N = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ...,}
Whole Numbers:
Counting Numbers including zero
• Whole Numbers contains the set of postive integers from 0 to infinity
• Whole Numbers is represented by the letter "W".
W={0,1,2,3,...,}
Integers :
Numbers with both positive numbers negative number including zero
• Integers contains numbers from -infinty to + infinity with zero
• Integers is represented by the letter "Z"
Z={,...,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,...,}
Rational numbers:
Number which are in the form of p/q where q is not equal to zero.p& q are integers
•Rational numbers are represented by the letter "Q"
Q={1/2,2/2,3/5,6/6,0,1,6, ....,}
Irrational Numbers:
Numbers which cannot be written in the form of p/q
Ex: √2,√3...,
Real Numbers:
Any number such as positive , negative rational, irrational and all types of Numbers are called as Real Numbers.
• Real Numbers are represented by the letter "R"
R={1,2,-1,-2,...}
Complex Numbers
A number that is in the form of "a+ib" is called complex numbers, where “a and b” should be a real number and “i” is an imaginary number.
Ex: 4i, -2 + 3i, 1 +√2i, etc
