Exponents and powers

Exponents and powers

exponents and powers are ways used to represent very large number or very small number in simplified manner

 for example : 3x3x3x3 = 34

3 is said to be 3is raised to power 4

Definition of exponent: An exponent of a number represent the number of times the number is multiplied to itself.

Assume 8x8x8x....ntimes = 8n

8 is raised to power n

General form of exponents

axaxax...xa= an

a is any number n is exponent or power or index.

Laws of Exponents

Multiplication law

the product of two exponents with the same base and different powers equal to base raised to the sum of two powers

am * an = a(m+n)

Division law

went to expense having same basis and different towards are divided than result in base raised to difference between the two powers

am / an = a(m-n)

  1. Negative exponent law

Anyways if has negative power then it results in reciprocalbert with positive powers or integers to the base

Ex: 8-2

Then it can be written as 1/ 8x8
